GTOA lleva a las orcas a la conferencia náutica "The sea", Cork Irlanda

El 11 de marzo de 2023 tuvo lugar en el Club Royal Náutico de Cork, Irlanda la conferencia "The sea", organizado por Irish Sailing, con la colaboración de Union Chandlery, Marine and Yacht Supplies, Cruising Association of Ireland y Kilrush Marina.
La conferencia trató temas sobre travesías, seguridad en la mar, navegación en alta mar, orcas... En esta actividad participó Mónica González, bióloga de CEMMA/GTOA, hablando sobre la biología, comportamiento de las orcas y sobre todo de las interacciones que se producen desde el 2020.
La presentación contó con más de 100 personas donde hubo mucho interés y participación por parte del público. Hubo una respuesta muy positiva, donde se comentaron posibles soluciones ante este nuevo reto. Cabe señalar que muchas de las sugerencias pasaban por modificar nuestra conducta y la ingeniería naval, demostrando que existe respeto y admiración por esta especie. La divulgación científica y la concienciación social son una parte crucial para poder conservar y proteger a las especies amenazadas, por lo que en el proyecto FriendSHIP: orcas trabajamos para alcanzar a la mayor cantidad de población posible con información científica para tratar de conseguir un cambio de actitudes favorables a la conservación del medio marino.
